New ANA- Board and Programs

Fellow members and well wishers,

Thank you for the overwhelming support and ideas that you showered us since our last call for participation. We had campaigned on promise to change ANA now we are going to deliver it. The deliberate systems approach has produced very promising pathways.

Our first step was to conduct the survey for your ideas. Then we asked for your involvement. Then we asked the previously involved to recommit. It turns out a lot of the Diaspora had a sense of kinship with ANA and were looking to make a positive contribution to the community once there was an opportunity. We structured the new ANA to make that happen.

Being the national platform organization, we pledged during the election that we would make ANA be inclusive and be truly representative of the entire community of Nepali Americans, expatriate Nepalis, and friends of Nepal. What better way to make that into reality than having the executive board, that shapes policies and strategies of ANA, become the common forum for the elected representatives of local organizations of North America, and reinforce our unity.

Thus, now we have in new ANA Executive Board members, recognized community leaders, so far consisting of:

Ananta Risal, President, Friends of Nepal- New Jersey
Dilli Poudel, past General Secretary, Baltimore Association of Nepalis in America
Jangbu Sherpa, past President, Greater Boston Nepalese Community
Laxmi Gaudel, Treasurer, America Nepal Society- Washington, D.C.
Mohan Timilsina, General Secretary, Nepali Association of Georgia
Neelam Shrestha, President, Rocky Mountain Friends of Nepal
Ram Pokhrel- President, Nepalese Society of Texas
Shambhu Dhungana- President, Friends of Nepal- Los Angeles
Utsav Gurung, President, Greater Boston Nepalese Community

We are coordinating on inducting more of your local community leaders near the place you live, in the next phase.

Realizing community goals and objectives is a challenge when all of us have limited time we share with families and professional work. To maximize the return on our efforts, we need a set of functional expertise led by dedicated volunteers on that program. The second entity of the new ANA is the Functional Programs. Functional Programs will be working autonomously to further the goals of all Nepali community in North America, and it will be lead by the Program Director.

The Program Directors are the recognized and dedicated community stalwarts and will be aided by a team of functional specialists- all volunteers, to promote the common objectives, and attain the goals set to achieve them. From next week we will be introducing the Functional Programs in detail. Below is the partial list.

Basanta Shrestha, Senior Litterateur; Academic Nepali Literature Council
Govinda Giri Prerana, Chief Editor- Vishwaparikrama; North America Media Club
Mahendra Poudel, Promoter, Nepal Promotion and Projects
Medini Adhikari, ANA VP; Issues Advocacy and Lobbying
Prahlad KC, Entrepreneur; Non Resident Nepali
Prem Raja Mahat, Legendary Artist; Culture Preservation and Promotion
Priyanka Upadhyaya, Student; ANA Youth Association
Sajesh Giri, NASA Engineer; Planet Nepal Wiki
ANA Executive Board; Emergency Fund

One of the most successful program launched by ANA- Nepal Educational and Cultural Center (NECC),
a subsidiary of ANA, near Washington, DC has reached another milestone by restructuring the loan and now the dream of realizing our big community center and temple in the 9 acre property is a step closer with construction. We will be sharing knowledge and expertise to have Nepal Center on all major cities in North America. Kudos to hundreds of volunteers, Area Co-ordinators and NECC Management Committee led by Dr. Mahendra Karki.

Similarly ANA Scholarship Program that have been conducted by Dr. Tulasi Joshi, Professor, Fairmont University for over 20 years will continue to be an example for all and will be strengthened. Full details of the program will be shared with local organizations and can be found on anaonline.org.

We want to acknowledge that Mr. Hari K. Sharma, CPA and community leader, has been reappointed Auditor General, and will continue to independently audit and file ANA and NECC finances. He was instrumental in successful issuance of ANA Promissory Notes.

There are lot more happenings in the organization, internal and external, that we have not been able to communicate effectively but are working on it. Rest assured we will do our utmost. We ask you to stay involved and continue to give direction to your Association of Nepalis in the Americas.

Best wishes and regards,

ANA Executive Board
